Recite salawaat when entering your house – Sahl Ibne Saad
narrates that a person came to meet Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and
complained to him about his poverty. The prophet (s.a.w.a.)
advised him, whenever you enter your house then recite salaam
even if no one is there (in the event that no person is there, one
should say Assalamo Alayna Wa Ala Rabbena), recite salawaat
and also recite Surah Tawheed (Qul Howallaho Ahad). The
person did as he was advised and soon he was relieved from
poverty.
The incident of the Jew – This incident is narrated in the book
Hikayatus Saleheen. It is narrated that a person, frustrated by
his poverty left his house so that he may get something by
which he may feed his family and fulfil their needs. He
wandered about aimlessly not knowing which direction he was
going or where he would end up. While he roamed about, he
came across a place where the voice of a speaker came to his
ears. He walked over to where the speech was being delivered
and saw that the speaker was informing the audience on how to
recite salawaat. The speaker exhorted the audience to recite
salawaat saying that if a rich person recites salawaat, Allah
increases his blessings. And if a poor person recites salawaat
then Allah grants him sustenance from the skies and also
increases his overall sustenance.
The person heard the speech and started reciting salawaat as he
departed from there. After three days he reached a desert.
While walking, his leg hit a stone which broke revealing a pot
that lay beneath it. The pot was filled to the brim with precious jewels. He said to himself that the blessings of salawaat are
meant to cause sustenance to flow from the skies. Since this
has come from the ground I cannot accept it. Therefore he
covered the pot with the stone, left for home and on reaching
home he narrated the entire episode to his wife.
The neighbour of this man was a Jew who heard the entire
narration while he was on the roof of the house. He came down
from the roof and immediately left for the desert. He found the
pot. However to his surprise the pot was filled with poisonous
snakes and scorpions. The Jew thought that perhaps the man
intended that I should be killed as I am a Jew. Why don’t I turn
the tables on him and throw this from the roof of the house into
his room. With this intention he took the pot and took it to the
roof of the Muslim and emptied some its contents into the
house. The man heard a sound in the room and looked up to
see golden coins falling from the sky. He called out to his wife
and told her – see I told you that due to the blessings of
salawaat, Allah will send sustenance from the skies. The Jew
was surprised to hear the joyous voice of his neighbour. He
looked in the pot and once again he saw filled with snakes and
scorpions. He threw the balance contents into the house. Once
again, there was a rain of gold coins in the Muslim’s house.
The Jew understood that this episode was from the secrets of
Allah which was playing out right there. He was reminded of
the event at the time of Hazrat Musa (a.s.) when the water of
the Nile turned into blood for the Egyptians and back to water
for Bani Israel. The Jew repented and accepted Islam at the
hands of the Muslim.
