*Does Shaikh Ja’far Want to Reduce My Mourning?!*

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The esteemed Sayyed, Shaikh Morteza Moqtadaei – one of the current scholars of the holy city of Qom – stated in his Dars Kharij jurisprudence (fiqh) class:

In the year 1350 AH (solar calendar), I traveled to Mecca and there I met “Mr. Shaikh Ali Kashiful Ghita,” the grandson of the late Shaikh Jafar Kashiful Ghita – who about 200 years ago was one of the great Shia religious authorities (maraji’).

He told me: Marhoom Shaikh Jafar Kashiful Ghita once began to think that holding two gatherings and two mourning ceremonies for Fatimah Zahra (s.a) might result in, for example, reduced attendance at the gatherings; one group would hold ceremonies on this date (the first Fatimiyya) and another group would hold ceremonies on that date (the second Fatimiyya). If they were combined into one, the gatherings would be larger and the ceremonies would have greater vitality.

In any case, the martyrdom was either 75 days or 95 days [after the Prophet’s death].

Therefore, if after research and investigation, we concluded that her martyrdom occurred on the 75th or 95th day, we would announce that date and people would follow it; as a result, the anniversary of Fatimah Zahra’s (s.a) martyrdom would be removed from doubt and the vitality of gatherings and assemblies would increase.

With this thought in mind, he gathered numerous books of hadith and other sources. While he was engaged in this research, apparently at the final stage when it was midnight and he was close to reaching a final decision, it is said that on that very night his mother had a dream of Fatimah Zahra (s.a), and this mother had no knowledge whatsoever of what her son had decided to do and was planning to undertake.

They say: Fatimah Zahra (s.a) appeared (in the dream) to the mother of the late Kashiful Ghita in a state of displeasure and anger, saying:

_What is this work that your son is doing?! Your son wants to reduce the people’s mourning for my martyrdom?!_

The woman woke up, wondering what her son was doing! She came out of her room at night and saw that the light in her son’s room – Marhoom Kashiful Ghita – was on at that hour of the night. She opened the door and entered; she saw that Kashiful Ghita had gathered many books around him and was studying, researching, and investigating to announce the martyrdom on a single date.

The mother addressed the late Kashiful Ghita saying: My son! What are you doing?! Fatimah Zahra (s.a) is displeased with this action of yours! Kashiful Ghita said: Mother! What has happened? The mother recounted her dream; he understood that these two dates for the martyrdom (and greater mourning) were desired by her holiness. Therefore, the late Kashif al-Ghita abandoned his plan.
